Over the past few weeks, my house smell really bad, like a drainy smell. It is especially bad in the utility room and the kitchen, but also in the understairs cupboard. I have had the floorboards up in these rooms / areas, but I can't see any wet or damp. I have looked at all the connections for the washing machine and the dishwasher, but they all look OK. What can it be as it's driving my wife to distraction!!!!!

It could actually be coming from the outside drain itself, hence the smell will be coming from your drain in the sink.
The outside drain may be clogged up.
May be worth having it checked out.
Try some soda crystals down your drain to see if it unblocks anything

It could be the stink pipe is blocked. It takes away the smells from your toilet waste and on old houses is attached to the outside near to where the bathroom is. It rises above the gutter.
