the problem is your cats ... i have used little pebbles in all my indoor plant pots to cover the soil because 1 of my little babies constently wanted to dig for gold. I have covered the surrounding area with these pebbles and this has solved the problem ... do make sure they are shiney though as apparently cats don't like seeing their own reflection, hence why some people put botttles of water in their gardens. I purchasd mine for about 1 per bag and bought about 6 bags. Also cats don't like citrus smells so put some orange or lemon peel near your plant and see how you get on
Something very prickly?!
You have to remove all signs of cat visitation before you have a chance of growing anything. I put down plastic netting (raised about 2 inches off the ground) when I re-planted in a similar cat visited area. This kept the cats at bay while the plant grew through the net, and eventually hid it. It worked a treat.
Hi Ivan, Take a look here for more ideas to deal with your cats in the garden. http://parents.berkeley.edu/advice/pets/catpoop.html Newt
Re fasc and citrus smells. I use 6 or 7 drops of citronella essential oil (any citrus oil would do) and a couple of drops of geranium oil in a plant sprayer of water. Always shake well before use. In dry weather it lasts a while, but I'm afraid it will need respraying after rain. 19scar.
19scar here. Forgot to say where I spray the citrus mixture; around the perimeter of the affected area and, if a large area, in between the plants. Even on a windless day (very rare to have not even a slight breeze) you can't avoid mist covering parts of the plants, but it doesn't appear to have disturbed mine.
