Home telephone line rental

Do any other companies provide telephone line rental other than BT? I have moved to a new property and want to have my line activated (the lines are already in place and all sockets available). BT want to charge me �125 for this so I owuld like to find another provider.

If you're in a cable area you might be able to get another provider. See:

But I had exactly the same problem and had to pay BT to get the phone line connected in my new property because there is no cable here. They have you over a barrel.

At first chance I changed my calls to another provider (Sky) and just pay line rental to BT.

Tiscali do a package which covers free line rental, free landline phone calls to 01 and 02 numbers, free calls to certain countries - plus internet access - from less than �20 a month. Check out their latest deals.

If BT activate your telephone line, you will be contracted to stay with them for 12 months. If you don't you willhave to pay a large penatly.

By moving to another provider such as Tiscali you will be cancelling your BT contract and have to pay the penalty of around �70, on top of the �125 activation fee.

Ive gone with Madasafish for line rental, broadband phone calls I think its �26pm because I hate BT with a vengence. They once charged me over �100 for an engineer to reinstate my line after it was accidentally cut through and it took the engineer 2mins to do this. Plus they are impossible to get through to.

You still need a bt phone line for that. Same problem applies - bt need a minimum 12 month commitment or a penalty.
