Most combi boilers have a frost thermostat which cuts in at around 4C, to ensure that the central heating system does not freeze over.

Hymie is correct, but if you are not sure you're boiler has an automatic frost protection then leave the thermostat set to 5C. At this temperature the heating will only come on if danger of freezing is likley, yet it will not fire the boiler just because it is a bit chilly and heat an empty home for the sake off it and wast energy and money.
