Removing a non load bearing wall

I need to remove a non-load bearing single skin brick wall from between our lounge and hall way....this will open it up and give us a bigger lounge.

There's nothing above the wall eg it doesn't go straight up into the bedroom above and i know the bloke up the road did it but he has since moved (and the house is still standing).

I don't know if i should put a wooden lintel in....maybe a 6" x 2" just to be on the safe side.

Any suggestions (i know, get a builder in if unsure)

I had a similar layout in my house. Are you sure the upper floor joists do not use this wall as a load bearer?
In my case they did and we had to put in an RSJ to support the upper floor. A 6" x 2" wood lintel would not be safe or sufficient.

Builders may give you general advice but are not technically qualified to confirm whether or not the joists rely on this wall for mid-support
