Does any one know where I can get a device to hold a loo seat up? We have 'inherited' a loo that discriminates against men because the pan was fitted too close to the wall mounted cistern which allows the lid to stay up but not the seat!! I'm sure I have seen a neat device that does this some where. Its got to look good 'cos we're a Guest House

If you google on self lowering toilet seat, you should find something helpful. Here's a site to start you off. http://www.eqwip.com/store/group.asp?Department_ID=1&SUB_DEP ARTMENT_ID=54&GROUP_ID=196&AID=308235&PID=1082810 Most of them seem to be based on a hydraulic hinge (like a self closing door). This holds the seat up for a measured amount of time, then lowers it slowly in a controlled manner. Not sure about cost though
Fit a slimline cistern.
You could adapt the virgin trains technique for keeping the lid up and glue on some magnets. Get the polarities right though, otherwise you might be in for some sit-com style hilarious consequences.
