You can wrap them in newspaper, or bury them in dry compost, either works fine, then shove them away in a dark, cool dry place, a garage or shed is perfect. However, fpr the last three winters I have left mine in the ground, we live in the south and our garden is quite sheltered, but the y did fine, in fact I think they have produced better plants with more blooms this way, perhaps because they have got well established in the soil. To do this it is a good odea to plant them a bit deeper, about 8 inches down should be fine, in this country we never get frosts that go down that deep in most parts of the country any more.
