just use bbq charcoal but crush it into dust first.
I would suggest you use ;vermiculite or perlite in your terrariums . bbq charcoal has binders which may be toxic to the plants in the terrarium and "horticultural" charcoal is really a lower grade of the bbq. stuff- a marketing ploy. Stick with the semi-inert vers and pers and you won't go far wrong.

The charcoal will not actually be used in a terrarium but is intended to be used in a special compost mixture. It is sometimes described as ?activated charcoal? BBq charcoal is a no no.
Perhaps used for bird food supplement or aquarist supplies?
what do you want it for? The only time I have used it is to prevent algae growth in a bottle garden and this does work in my experience. Other than that there are many alternatives for a special potting mix which probably add more value than charcoal.
We used to use charcoal all the time for potting up orchids and other stuff such as Anthuriums which are prone to rotting off....it just keeps the compost sweet.

We used normal BBQ charcoal all crushed up but if you want activated charcoal/carbon....go to an aquarium shop.
