condensing boiler

can you use a condensing boiler with 6mm microbore pipe, so far all the plumbers i have asked are split 50/50 on the subject
. Dont really want to replace the whole heating system (4 bed house)...

Microbore pipe isn't popular anymore, full stop. I can't see how having a condensing boiler to the 6mm pipe system impacts the way the CH works (compared to what's on there now). Heating engineers / plumbers are probably concerned that if the system fails (not to do with the condensing boiler) they will be stumped to have to effect a repair to the microbore.

a condensing boiler isn't going to make any difference, all its doing is heating water and pumping it around the system.

we're not keen on microbore pipe, a proper quality installation should be on 15mm, microbore ppe is used for cheapness and ease of installation as its flexible. the main problem with microbore is that has the system ages and sludges up the microbore pipe is obviously going to become blocked a lot more than 15mm would with the obvious loss off efficency of the whole system. and even then most microbore pipe ive seen is 8 or 10mm, not 6.

i would bite the bullet and have the pipework renewed as well, a mate of mine who installs full systems only charges about a grand more for a full system than for just a boiler change.

you may have problems with the boiler warranty if you retain all the 8mm can you install some 22mm down to 15mm onto the manifolds to improve circulation hth Tez

i live in a small town in Northants and all the houses built around the 1970,s have this 6mm microbore in place..to be fair i have never had any problem with it. All the pipe fittings ,valves etc. are all still readily available from real plumbing supplies.
Im just thinking ahead as the Potterton boiler isnt going to last for ever, as some of the microbore is buried in the plaster i just didnt fancy the idea of replumbing all the rads.
