was woken up this morning with a hell of a noise coming from the loft, by the time i had got dressed it had stopped, went to work came home as im pulling up in the drive look up on the roof and there is a squirrel going in a gap near the guttering. Question is how do i get rid of it
You can do what you like poison, shoot it , trap it but you must not release it again as they are classed as vermin. Get rid as soon as possible cos it may be doing damage to the electrics and anything else it can find.
Squirrel in the loft is not good news.. I've had one. They will nest there, they will chew up your roofing felt if you have any and blanket type loft insulation. Worse they will chew through burglar alarm cables.
Squirrels are a variety of rat so call in the pest control people. They may do it for you free or you may have to call in a private firm to put poison down. Then make sure the loft is sealed against any further incursion. Any damage costs may NOT be covered by you building Insurance policy... check it out.
I used a 50/50 mixture of rat poison and ground nuts well mixed together with a saucer of water alongside as the mixture makes them thirsty and more affective. Have only seen two dead varmits in my garden since.
you have my sympathy, i had one in loft last year rang pest people at local council who said they didnt deal with them.they did come out to look and said it was mice droppings up there and put alot of bait around the attic.the noise carried on for at least 3 more weeks then stopped.a few weeks later i had a nasty smell coming through the ceiling and we found a dead squirrel up there was disgusting.i would get someone in to deal with it asp think they usually try to trap them or you could try putting a trap in the garden but as somewhen said you are not supposed to release them but i know of people who have.apparently they are like cats and can find their way back quite easily.good luck.
