Spreading alarmingly ! The growth in the lawn is just like burnt paper (black & white curled up pieces) and have been spreading since spring - slowly at first - I used Miracle Grow Lawn Food regularly but it's back with a vengeance. If I comb a growth patch and collect the bits they crumble to powder as I gather them up. I suspect it's a type of moss because it is most abundant in areas which don't get much sunlight. and the grass is not completely dry. Any help will be much appreciated.

Excuse the question, but do you have Turf?.
Question Author
In response ro Lonnie's query, the gardens to side & rear were turfed by builder back in 1965. Grass is mowed regularly, blades on medium setting. There has been a lot of moss but raking & feeding had fair success. It's this new strange "fungi" I'm trying to get rid of.
Hi Kirkpatrick,
So you couldn't really call it turf now, but I was thinking along the lines of something like a 'Chafer Bug' eating the roots, but its the powdery stuff that has me puzzled,
I thought I might bee able to help, so my apologies, although i'm going to pass this on to some gardners in my area, and if they come up with something, i'll come back.
