How effective is soundproofing on a party wall?
Our neighbour is rather deaf and has his telly really loud.
Also, you can hear everything else as well and it's very annoying.
I have seen high density, acoustic insulation blocks from Wickes, which they say need no studding.
Other types of insulation mats or boards go between battens and are then boarded and skimmed over.
I don't mind paying out if the reduction in noise is significant.
Anyone had any first hand experience of it's effectiveness?

You will need to consider how the sound travels between your houses.

If it is through the walls only, then it should help.

If the sound travels under the floor, it probably won't. Floorboards or concrete?
Any idea what the party wall is made of Bongo................
Question Author
judging by the thickness of the walls between the houses, i would say they are cavity walls
-- answer removed --
Bongo...it's not usual to have a cavity on an internal wall...........it may be solid.
In any case, if it's a concrete block wall, that should be dense enough to keep the noise of a telly out!
How old is the house approx?
Question Author
it was built round about 1926, its not the usual construction, its a nissen petren, we were told by a surveyor it was cavity walled, having measured the wall depths it seems to be the thickness of a cavity wall
