The council didn't want to know because we didn't have any children, and they claimed that we had made ourselves homeless.
We ended up in a very nice bed and breakfast for a while, luckily we were able to pay the debt off and get our house back (thank you mum and dad.) But you need to get advice as soon as possible, some areas have different schemes to help you. Do go to Citizens Advice as soon as possible, or a proper debt advice service, do not get at loan from these companies who advertise on the tv. You may be able to negotiate paying the loan off, less money each month and over a longer period of time.
I hope this has helped.
