I'm a bit peeved this week. Because of the bank holiday we didn't put our bin out on the right day so it is chokka and it has maggots in which we have never had before.

How do I get my bin emptied before it is due in two weeks? and how do you get rid of maggots?

Thanks

Phone your council is see if they are able to collect the rubbish.

In the mean time, fill a bowl with water and bleach and slosh it in the bin. That should kill them.

In future, wrap all food waste, especially meat, in paper and plastic bag before putting in the bin.

Thanks ethal I will ring them.

All our rubbish is in bags but the little blighters seem to have got out.

I'll leave the cleaning untill the bin is empty as if we have to move them it would slop everywhere.... hmm or maggots everywhere What a choice!!
Don`t waste them, do you know any fishermen whom would be only too happy to have them, I know I would.
Trouble is, if you don't deal with them they will be bluebottles before you can blink.

Then if they become bluebottles- wont they fly out your bin and problem solved??
I am having the same problem since they started two weekly collections, I wrap everything I put in the bin , use jeyes bin disenfectant , and jeyes fluid also jet wash the bin on a regular basis but still they keep coming back lol GypsyX
Well, at least the bluebottles that arise from the maggots will be reasonably sterile (they won't have chanced upon any sh*t in your home, will they ?) and will probably be a bit stupid too... My advice - get a cat or ensure that all rubbish is put out or put into a rubbish bin somewhere on a weekly basis... The cat will catch the bluebottles when they hatch !
Think yourself lucky; over last Christmas, a collection was missed here altogether and it resulted in RATS!!!! Ugh!
