Overheating Hoover vacuum cleaner

I have recently bought a Hoover U2485 vacuum cleaner. It is the traditional bagged variety rather than bagless. It seems to work OK but gets quite hot very quickly and then cuts out after only a couple of minutes. The safety cut out eventually resets but then it works for another couple of minutes and cuts out again. I have changed the bag on a regular basis and also cleaned or replaced the front and back filters. I conclude that I have a faulty cleaner and want to bounce it back to Currys where I bought it. It is still well within its guarantee period but the Hoover instruction leaflet states that if I have a problem I should phone their customer service on a premium rate phone number and not take it back to the shop.
Questions:- Has anyone experienced this overheating problem - and cured it? Surely under the Sale of Goods Act it is the retailer who is responsible for the quality of goods sold.

I think that you should take it back to Curry's since you bought it within the last 12 months. It's their problem and don't let them tell you otherwise.
Yes, take it back to Currys. It is the responsbility of the retailer to sort out problems when equipment they have sold is not fit for purpose.
