Curly wurly black stuff on my grass?

On my lawn theres loads of little black/brown curly wurly stuff and I carnt see what it can be. Its ruining the grass. And its getting trood in the grass with the kids playing and making the grass patchy. It also appears over night . Does anybody know what this could be ? Could It be hedgehog poo ? Thanks.

Worm casts are very good for your lawn, as it shows they are doing their job and digging your garden for you and for no charge. Just brush them in with a stiff broom and try not to tread then in as this will encourage weeds to grow. They are also aerating the lawn for you and eating leaves and other rubbish. Lucky you.
