How do I clean my futon cover?

The cover is a but musty with a few pawprints on there! I'm woried about taking the cover off as the filler is like a bunch of material and it may all fall apart!

My eldest son has a double Ikea futon in his room for when his mates crash. After a couple of weeks the cream cover (big mistake!) was marked with curry, lager and other stains I dare not think about.
I was going to wash it and when I unzipped the cover I saw it was like yours. I spot cleaned it as best I could with an upholstery cleaner and then made a loose cover for it.

Thank you MrsOverall. What a daft way to make them eh?! Will just try good old fashioned scubbing. Mine is cream too!
