washing machine screws up clothes

Just bought a brand new Brandt (no pun intended) and it screws up the clothes so tight it tore a pair of pyjamas.
Am I doing something wrong or is it a machine fault?

Im not sure its your fault, would probably be the machines. i would call the manufacturer immediately
