Any idea how much chimney sweps charge? Apparently, by law I have to have my chimney swept as I am having a gas fire fitted.

So hopefully that answers Ethel and terambulan. Although I don't remember mentioning or asking for details as to which law this relates to or log fires.
I have now booked one and the cost will be 35. So thanks to mcandrew and spudqueen.
Once again I, like so many others, have suffered the eternal problem with this website in that only 50% of the answers submitted actually answered my question.

when the corgi fitter refers to the "law" he actually means the gas regulations which are indeed a legal requirement.
i do not have my copy of the gas regs or a copy of the british standard covering fires in front of me as i am away at my girlfriends at the moment. I can however tell you that if you are having a gas fire installed on a flue/chimeny that has reviously been used with solid fuel then it is advisable to have the chimney swept first to remove the soot deposits.
we called a chimney sweep in 2 weeks ago in Birmingham and he charged 40
