we have a new condenser boiler and have been told to set the boiler temperature for the heating to maximum and alter the room thermostat accordingly. does anyone know if this is the most efficient and cheaper way of running our central heating?

yes it is.

.. because the condensing action that extracts the final bit of latent energy from the water vapour as it condenses back to water works best at higher boiler settings.

Hi I thought that with these sophisticated condensing boilers they were efficient though all temps,
There is a word of warning though if you do have it on max there could be a risk of burning if a child or elder person was to touch the radiators at those high temperatures before TRVs or ROOM STATS responded to cool them down even then the modulating boiler would still raise and lower rad temps.

A condensing boiler is only efficient when it is actually in condensing mode.

Some condensing boilers have a "E" symbol on the themostats which is apprently the most efficient setting to have it on.
