We need lighting in our lounge using 100W bulbs especially for reading. However the equivalent low energy bulbs are not sufficient and emit a duller light. As the old type bulbs are to be phased out what is the answer?.

If a 20W low-energy bulb (which is what is theoretically equivalent to a 100W tungsten bulb) isn't bright enough for you, simply use a 25W low-energy bulb (which is theoretically equivalent to a 125W tungsten bulb). You'll still only be using a quarter of the energy used by your old bulbs:

buy a load of the older type bulbs before they disappear.
I understand that it is not true that the energy saving bulbs save as much as supposed, nor do they last anything like as long.
It wont happen, the phase out. These new bulbs dont fit everything.

They start dull and brighten as they warm up, then too bright.

And they now know that they can trigger, migraine, epilepsy and some of conditions.

I have replaced them by ordinary light bulbs in some areas of our house now and I don't feel guilty. Sometimes you need instant light anyway!!

I must admit I've only seen 20W low energy bulbs for sale. I'll have to look elsewhere. 25W should be ideal I think.
