In new housing developments, is there legislation that dictates that a certain percentage of properties have to be reserved for social housing? And if so, is it a fixed percentage or does it vary across wards / districts?

there are recommendations that a percentage is social. But the builders can be offered alternatives, such as paying money towards local schools, librarys etc instead

The percentage of social houseing is dictated by the local coucil and varies throughout the county let alone the country.
