washing machine foaming up

my clothes were coming out of the washing machine really wet, so i let out excess water from the door opening at the bottom of the machine. but now, they are still coming out wet plus the drum gets so full of foam that the detergent drawer fills with foam and pours out on to the floor. i am not putting too much detergent in. is there a simple solution to this problem, is there a blockage somewhere??

Are putting in the right powder? Foaming occurs when you put ordinary powder in instead of automatic.

im have been using the same liquid wash for a few months now. it doesnt say whether its automatic or not? whats the difference? its only recently that its started playing up....

Dunno about liquids but you should never put ordinary powder in an auto for that reason

You might have a blockage - have you emptied your filter lately? The filters are usually situated at the bottom of the machine, generally on the front, you may have to pull open a little door (use a coin to lever it open), then place a shall bowl on the floor and open up the compartment. Mine has a little tube attached that has to be pulled out in order to drain the filter compartment into the bowl, then any gunk, buttons, fluff etc can be lifted out.

I've just reread your question and it appears that you already know how to drain the filter compartment (the door opening at the bottom of the machine) - all you need to do now is physically look inside this compartment to check it's clear - you might need to shine a torch inside it and be on the floor when looking inside.

Proper automatic powder or liquid should never foam up that much as it has anti foaming agents in it.

anyhow, it sounds like it's not draining the water, most likely a blockage in the pump or pipes to and from it

When you drain the water from the door at the bottom are you removing the filter and cleaning it too? also when you remove the filter you may be able to see the pump impeller, if you can reach it make sure it's not jammed and can rotate freely.

Just put a double dose of fabric
condtioner in ..that will zap the soap
out ...then buy wash tablets as they
are measured amounts ..

If the filter's not blocked, then it could be pump that's either jammed or packed up. If you have young girls in the house, then it's odds-on that it's an elasticated band thingy that they use to tie their hair into a pony tail:-)

When I first had my automatic washing machine, I used those little tablets of compressed soap powder. I placed one in the little nylon net bag and put this bag in with the clothes..... The bag vanished mysteriously and I assumed it had gotten trapped inside a pillowcase or duvet cover then promptly forgot all about it... After a few months, I noticed that my clothes were coming out of the machine rather wet and soapy, so I investigated the filter... and found the culprit ! Yep, it was the little bag, a few buttons, some very grey gungy hairy stuff, a wad of white tissue paper and a coin....

the filter doesnt seem to be blocked, i unscrewed the cap and lots of water came out, but there was no buttons or coins or anything. but there is nothing to pull out to clean or look deeper into the machine. if i unscrew the cap, there is a tunnel about 3 inches long(which gets blocked with water), and at the back of that there is a hole about 2cm wide which if i put my finger in it i can feel it is full of water too. dont know what else i can do now, other than phone someone out....

Have you taken the back of the machine off?

is the machine draining when you do a load? ( can you hear it do so?)
I also had a problem with wet clothes but it was due to the filter being blocked by limescale (hard grey solid bits) it was fine once I cleared that up

i wouldnt dare take the back off!! yes i can hear the water coming out. it is at the very very end of the cycle when the foam starts coming up through the drawer (about 2 minutes before the cycle has finished).

i'll just phone someone up, and hopefully if its something simple, i wont get charged too much!!!

I had a similar problem with the outlet pipe - it was completely clogged up due to being in a hard-water area. We had to pull the machine forwards, then disconnect and clear the pipe - it looked as though it was full of bits of cement. Advice is to use liquid detergent, not powder.
