In yesterdays Times (7.1.09) there was a picture up the Chams-Elysees showing all the trees wrapped up and a sign on each tree.Why do they wrap them?

probably protection from cold weather? or possibly the trees have been treated with a chemical pesticide/fungicide (doubtful as the weather in too cold at present)
