can anyone tell me where i would go on the internet to tell me who has lived in house since it was built

No, but you can find out who has owned it by downloading the Title Register from the Land Registry - costs around �3
As Ethel states, the only useful information you can find on the web is a copy of the title register, which will cost you �3:

However your local county record office may well have further information available. (You'll probably need to take your passport and/or driving licence, together with several proofs of address when you first visit. Record offices hold some very valuable historical documents, so they take care to check the identity of people consulting the records). Find your local register office here:
