What to do in Tropical San Juan Condo?

I have a gardening problem you may be able to help me with (no one has ) I have an enclosed area with little ventilation and large glass windows with sun 1/2 day where I have planters and all the plants seem to die (not by my intervention). What type of plant can I put there? (Gardeners have suggested cacti, which I hate) also tied to buy a Kopi from Santa Fe to put there, but too large and wouldn't ship it to me (a Kopi is a fertility god my kids liked who plays a flute). It is for the area out of my apt in front of elevator. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you very much
