tenantable condition

My husband died 40 yrs ago, left everything to his child. I was 2nd wife. His will stsates I can live in house provided I keep it in tenantable condition. Now roof is leaking and I can't afford repairs. What is my position? Over years I have repaired everything and child has not had to pay a penny for upkeep and has not visited here. I am now 83, have no money left. Advice please.

Would it be at all possible for you to move in to smaller, rented accommodation that will be easier to manage?

If you have a smallish income and limited savings you should get help with rent and council tax

if the child never visits, how will they find out anyway? Have you been in touch with age concern about their handyman scheme? it might be cheper than you think to repair

I thought as the wife the house automatically goes to you. I would check that is the case with Citizens Advice Bureau. If that is the case, sell it and move to a better place. Won't be easy to sell at the moment though.
