Squirrel proof bird feeder
9 Answers
Does anyone know where I can buy a bird feeder that I can put nuts and seeds in for the birds without the fat grey squirrels that live around here, getting in.
I have brought a number which are advertised as being Squirrel proof but have not been too successful so ideally looking for ideas from those who have actually got one.
Thanks in anticipation.

But not hanging! Put on a tall metal pole - we got ours from a garden centre, with the correct attachment for the feeder. Make sure it is placed away from trees etc so the squirrels can't jump onto it. It works in our garden.
Or if that's not possible we had some succes with a hanging feeder suspended by elastic, as the squirrels don't seem to like that bouncing feeling! Put a large plastic cover (a flowerpot saucer works well) above the feeder so the squirrels can't hang down to get at it.
Good luck!

This made me laugh, only we bought one like it & found a squirrel curled up inside, around the bottom, sunbathing!
Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder
We've since bought some similar ones, but with narrower bars. The squirrels can't get into them no matter how hard they try!

I have one of those metal pole feeders and grease the bottom section with cheap Vaseline from Pound Shop, it is sited away from trees so squirrels can't jump onto it, the only way to access it is up the slippery pole, which it can't do so problem solved - the apples I spear onto the top of the pole for the parakeets always end up on the ground anyway once the starlings have had a go at them so the squirrels get those and the other feeding pole I have is near a fence and the squirrels can get to the fat balls on that one, although the seed feeders are metal and they have a bit of trouble with those. I wouldn't mind the squirrels just taking the food, but it's when they wreck the feeders to get to the food that I object.
