Dennis, I cannot imagine how I could have failed to recognize your Confucius quote, but it was a bit garbled. Thanks for your link. It gives �I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.� I think my own translation from the original would be �Hearing I forget. Seeing I remember. Doing I understand.� I would really like to translate the last one �By doing I understand�, but that would be to spoil the parallelism in the original for the sake of English idiom. But that idiom makes a distinction which perhaps is necessary in E to bring out the true meaning. What do you think?
