ihavve been told that if i erect a series of angle irons 2ft long and slanted at an angle of 45 degrees from the edge of the pond and thread three strands of wire through holes in the angle irons that the herons who hate stepping over the wires will leave the carp alone. the pond is 60ft long. any ideas or confirmation of this would be gratefully received. thanks ceasar

try a plastic heron at the edge of the pond, any other herons flying past will see this and keep going
as the previous answer, thats what i have always believed , apparantly Herons are teratorial so wont land anywhere they see another one..hence plastic Herons in ponds
Thats a huge pond AND you have carp which are magnets for Herons. Your spike idea sounds good but if a heron has actually landed I'm afraid you might as well give up. You could shoot it dead - but its illegal so I can't really suggest that. I too have a plastic heron, painted pale grey to look more realistic - but I think your days are numbered. Herons are vile things and dont even eat the fish but just play with them. Are you in the country or town?
