Repotting orchids

I have several orchids given me by friends.. nothing extra special, mainly I imagine, supermarket or garden centre.
However they are doing well, and one is on it's second year and shooting nicely.
They all are very short of compost, and I have just bought some but before I top up the pots wonder if I should, in fact, put them into larger pots.
Also all of them are in transparent plastic pots.. is this necessary, and if so are they readily available?
I'd be glad of any advice from all you clever people out there.

I have repotted my 3 orchids which were in transparent containers into 1 large glass container. A friend told me that if you buy a plant in a see through container you should always repot it in the same sort container.Something to do with the light and the roots.

They are thriving and this was about 4 months ago.

I'm not expert but I am sure someone will know more

Crazy is right, the light must get to the roots of this kind of plant
