What is it,such when i goto a garden centre what do i need to look for and buy

A fully balanced fertilizer would list 10-10-10 on the bag for the proportions of Nitrogen (N), Phosphorous (P) and Potassium (K). It could also be 8-8-8 ot even 20-20-20.

However, though these ratios are equal it may not produce the best results for whatever you're growing which is highly dependant on the soil ph and other attendant conditions. Remember, you're fertilizing the soil, not the plants...

In 1942, the British 'National Growmore' was introduced as a balanced frtilizer to help in the war effort. It has an NPK of 7-7-7. N for springtime grasses and green leaf vegetables, P for root vegetables and autumn grass roots , and K for flowering and fruiting plants in season. It's still available today though it can come under different names. Just check out the NPK proportions on the labels. The other thing about it is that whatever you're growing, it won't do any harm.
