I have just spotted some buds on my 5year old wisteria, has anyone else waited this long for flowers,? now what should I feed it on, will tomato food be alright? thanks for any help . have a nice evening.

Liquid tomato feed is good but its possibly a bit early yet. Which variety of wisteria is it? colour of the flowers?

Wisteria are reknowned for taking years to flower. My mum heard an old wives tale about feeding them rice pudding. She did this (ie dug one in) and her wisteria produced lovely flowers for the first time!

An article in a gardening mag MANY years ago mentioned that it can take up to 7 years for a Wisteria to flower the first time.

Yes my Wisteria is about as old as yours and I have got flowers for the first time this year.. I have also got one of the new types of Wisteria (Amethyst Falls) which flowers on the first year and also flowers more than once - and I am pleased to say its flowering now as we speak (I bought it last year) Also I'm going with the tomato food. - as it likes a high Potash feed..
