Is is possible to "Joint "polycarbonate?

I have a large piece of polycarbonate sheeting that I use to cover my fish pond in the winter months. It is too large to fit through the back garage door where I store it in the summer. Is it possible to cut it in two and put some sort of hinges / bolts on it so I can fold it down for storage but still effectively cover the pond in the winter without it collapsing into the pond when I open it out?

Can't you put it on legs and create a sheltered sitting area by your pond as although I think it possible to put a joint in the sheet I feel it is a lot of work just to be able to put it away whereas by creating a sitting area(gosh I can visualize it in my minds eye!!) it's in play all the time.Unless it's a teeny-weeny piece of poly carbonate!!

You could always saw it in half and then drill "lace holes" along the joint so that it could be hinged with strong string or leather straps.
A plank across the pond and underneath the joint would stop it all collapsing into the pond and it would all fit in your garage during the Summer.
