dyson DC07 - main hose

My DC07 has a couple of cracks in the main flexible hose right by the collar, caused by frequent use. Now of course, its not airtight and the machine does not work as well as it should. The problem is at the end of the hose which fits into the removable pipe. There is a small black lug which I presume is pushed in, and the whole hose is removed. However, I cant seem to depress this lug. Any thoughts or is there knack to this? relacement hoses direct from Dyson are over �20!!
