what can I put on the earth around my garden to stop cats using it as a toilet

there is a plant called scaredycat which apparently they hate. You could try those sensor things that hurt thier ears. Or you can sqiurt them with a small water pistol until they get the message.
I have 3 cats so all I ask is try something that wont hurt them.

I know it must be a pain.. but if it is just one cat using it - is it really a big deal??? My cat uses his own garden and when gardening I oftne come across one of his little piles of dirt mounded up... I just chuck it in the neighbours garden! No problem!

wilkos sell a cat repellent or two,
both work for me but have top be put on grass etc monthly.
they do say cats don't crap where there fed so you could try feeding them cheap stuff from netto

Using those FREE brown wire coat hangers that you get from the Dry Cleaners, cut them up into pieces about 6 inches long and push them into the soil leaving about 3 inches projecting upwards. Place them about every 4 or 6 inches apart and the little moggies won't be able to crouch down to do a poo. This should convince them that it must be less painful to do it in another garden.
The wire is practically invisible after it goes rusty.
Cheap, effective and painless. (unless you're a cat!)

I have yet to test this idea, but apparently cats don't like snakes so if you buy some plastic kids toy snakes and put them in your garden, the cats will be too frightened to use your garden as a loo (or course there is also the possibility that it may have the opposite effect and cause them to 'lose control' ).

buy a bag of pea sticks from garden centres they are only �1 and cut they into few lengths......stick them in soil in all angles.....

someone actually told me to do this on here and it does work
