Ants have suddenly appeared in the kitchen, I don't know where from. As I never leave food out & clean all services I wondered if anyone has any magical ideas of how the get rid of thee horrible things.

I used to use a product called ANTSTOP from Homebase which was very good. You could spray on the carpet just inside the doorway and round the skirting boards and the ants either die or take it back to the nest and it kills the others in the nest.
I suppose it will still be available somewhere???

Little *******! I have had them in my kitchen recently. I just squash them. The warm weather brings them out. If I could see them under a microscope I'd probably run a mile!

Find out where they are coming in first.
I found they don't like scented oil,any will do.Put it in a spray bottle and spray around the edges of the floor.
Makes the room smell nice as well.
Don't bother with ant traps as I have yet to find any that actually work.
If they are getting in from outside you should fill any holes with poly-filler.
We had one under our sink unit coming through some old pipework,it was sealed over when we had the new kitchen and never seen one since.

We get them from time to time, and I usually use Nippon (not the powder) where I can see them between the blocks outside. I bought an ant pen and used it along the floor by the door.

If it's any consolation, they are not considered to be vermin, but they still give you the creeps!

I had them a few years ago, I sprinkled cinnamon around, never saw them again, it seems they don't like it.

They are coming in to look for something sweet. Try putting a jam jar with a little jam or syrup,outside the nearest entrance to your house, then they will head straight for that instead of coming inside. you may have to replenish from time to time. Also use ant powder around doorways, steps & anywhere you can see them taking a regular route.
If you can locate the nest, a kettle of boiling water will dispatch most of them & their grubs - repeat if necessary.
One thing in their favour - they don't have any interest in the sort of thing that flies inhabit!! & are pretty clean living really.
