I live in a terraced house and the dividing wall at the rear is in need of repair as it has become unstable due to age/wear and tear. My problem is who is responsible for the rebuild or repair to that wall as the landlord next door is saying it is a joint responsibility but my understanding is that because this particular dividing wall is on the higher side of my property then the responsibilty to maintain and repair lies with the landlord? Is this correct or not?

I think the landlord next door may be trying to pull a fast one. I presume you own your property, so you will need to refer to the deeds and these will tell you what dividing fences you are responsible for. Hope it goes your way, good luck.
You might find out that the wall is your sole responsibility and that you will have to pay the full cost of repairs!

The only way to be certain is to check your deeds but maybe you should just take up the LL's offer and go halves?
I agree with cheekychops - you need to check the deeds. In our first house we owned the boundary on the right, in our second house we owned the boundary on the left, and in this house all boundaries are jointly owned!
