Does anyone know how invasive the roots of this tree are and how far from my house it should be planted? Does the root structure stay similar to the canopy?

Willows are notorious for putting down deep, invasive roots and for being a danger to foundations! Don't plant one anywhere near your house or you run the risk of subsidence. Friends of mine had this happen and the tree was 20 ft from the house!

That may be/is true for many Willows .. but not for a Contorta. Get it planted. I had one for 20years now : )
