chain lub oil is very expencive and i,m sure i,ve read
that there is a cheaper effective alternative .. is there anyone who has used other cheaper oils ?? if so what resaults did you get

They are usually sold in larger containers, like 1/2 or full gallons. You can buy them in single viscosity rather than the multi-viscosity usuall used in autos. Perhaps something of the same variety is avialble in the U.K.?
I've friends in Canada that use a product called Binol that is produced in Sweden by Karlshamns AB, made from Canola (I think ya'll call it by it's old name rapeseed) tha tis produced primarily for environmental reasons. It works quite well, but I suspect it's pricier that petroleum based oils...
