Hi all, we have just returned from our holidays to find, a neighbours tree/bush inches from our back door has a large amount of wasps hovering around in the branches. I am unable to say what the tree is. The tree does seem to be infected by rings of black insect eggs / aphids?
Does anyone have any idea? Do you think there could be a wasp nest close by?
Are you absolutely sure they're wasps & not hoverflies? They can appear very similar & there are lots of them about this year, they're harmless & very good for the garden as their larvae eat aphids...and there are masses of those!
If you're sure they're wasps then yes, there's probably a nest in there which might take a bit of spotting, they're usually well camouflaged.
