My grand daughter has just had exactly the same problem. The water will trickle out of the hot taps and then stop but the cold taps are fine.
We checked the system and found that the inlet ball-**** valve to the cold water storage tank (just above the hot tank) had jammed shut and the storage tank was empty. It means a new ball-**** valve which she is having done
I'd be inclined to turn off the water heating system until you found out exactly what the fault is.

You're problem could be something else but this will give you something to look at in the meantime.

Thanks, my water pressure hasnt dropped at all though, it still comes out the same just that it is now cold instead of hot, which I cannot understand at all as the tank is hot!
Sorry. The second line of your original message, combined with our experience, led me to believe that the cold water was coming from the cold tap.
I can't understand what would cause your problem unless a tap fitted to the top pipe from the hot water outlet has been accidentally turned off and the water is having to run from the bottom pipe of the tank where the water is continually refreshed from the cold storage tank above.
Probably time to get the plumber???

Thank you for responding - I have now rung a plumber and he is coming out tomorrow morning - looks like pans of hot water for baths tonight! Hopefully he will sort it out without me needing to take out a bank loan! Thanks again x
