Plants for an exposed garden

I live in the north-east of Scotland and my front garden is only separated from the North Sea by the golf course.
Any suggestions for hardy plants which could be grown there in containers?

I always think the best thing to idea to get ideas for your garden is to drive around the area and see what other people have, not just one or two but quite a few people.
