mine is very effective & quite cheap to run. I have one of those energy monitors & when I have the heater on One bar it uses approx 4 pence of electricity an hour. When we put it up to the maximum setting (three bars) it was just over 12p an hour. Hope this helps. Happy New Year!

Halogen heaters are no more and no less efficient than any other electrically driven heater (despite the weasel-worded claims by the manufacturers). ALL types of electrical heater convert 100% of their input electricity into heat.
'Cheap to run' is a relative term. The way you get an electrical heater to be cheap to run is to drive it off cheaper off-peak electricity. If thelewisgang's heater is using 4p of electricity per hour, it must be rated at about 400W with one bar running - it's that simple. You can't get more than a pint from a pint pot.
