Electricity costs

Why is it that people seem to make a huge fuss about the price of electricity, constantly change provider, etc; then leave lights on when they're not in the room, leave doors open so the heat goes outside, constantly use the tumble dryer instead of an outdoor line, appliances on standby, chargers plugged in; etc, etc, etc.
If everyone used a bit of common sense about this there would be no need for all the panic about running out of power in a few year's time.

it seems if we are going to run out of electricity in a few years, why are they producing all these new electric cars? Whar a waste of money
