I don.t think you get fumes from electric storage heaters, you may be suffering a little dryness of the skin etc, it is common with all sorts of heating when they are on for long periods of time like the long winter we i having at present, up to a point central heating is not healthy. Years ago you had one coal fire in your main room, if you could afford the coal that is, the rest of the house was freezing but a lot less colds and flu around, turn the heat down wear a jumper and also save money.

Ta for that Will. I guessed there wouldn't be fumes, but maybe dust getting into the grill???
I agree - more likely dust got in the grilles, getting fried.
Have you recently run it for the first time after a period of time off?

No Buildersmate, I said dust as a way to the solution, if there is any. Any time the fire is left off and then on again, the fry up of frizzled dust sends the smoke alarm into hysterics....yep, I'm the owner of an hysterical smoke alarm...I think that should be an 'a'!

Does anyone think a bowl of water near the fire help?...putting more moisture in the air?
Yes, I think a bowl of water does help, the heat from storeage heaters is very dry! I hated having storage heaters|! Always had bowls of water around the house, it did help a bit!.....................

Thanks Welsh...., I'll give the bowls a go then.
