Flat roofed kitchen can be cold in winter.
2 Answers
When we bought our house it had a kitchen extension at the back with a flat roof. I've noticed over the winter that even with the heating on the kitchen does not seem to retain heat. I know that there is no insulation between the wooden ceiling and the flat roof and am aware that this can cause heat loss. Is there any way to put insulation into the ceiling without tearing it down and do you think having insulation in the ceiling would have much effect in real terms. I would be looking to get something done before next winter.

If it's a solid structure with the space between the ceiling and outer surface unavailable, insulting becomes more difficult but not impossible. (it's strange it wasn't insulated during construction).
Here, in the U.S. there are many insulation companies that can drill a series of small holes in the ceiling, insert a hose and blow in shredded fiber-glass or other appropriate insulation. It's fairly inexpensive yet effective. the holes are resealed and painted or otherwise made inconspicous.
If, on the other hand, the ceiling can be removed and replaced, typical batt type insulation can be easily inserted... Best ofluck!
