Horrible Fitted Wardrobes!!!

I am wanting to decorate our bedroom and pull these awful fitted wardrobes out BUT my husband doesnt as they hold so much stuff (his junk mainly!!) Has anyone got any ideas on how we can 'jazz' them up to make them look more modern?? Thanks!

Once lived in a flat with old fitted wardrobes, couldn't remove them , so bought some good quality wall paper and papered over the fronts and sides, painted the frames and handles first.
looked quite good and made the room look so much more modern.

I have just removed some horrible fitted wardrobes, one hell of a job, but now they are out the room looks so much bigger, as you say they were full of stuff we did not want, there were no drawers just big shelves to pile stuff up on so I could never find anything, we are now looking for a nice 'proper' wardrobe with drawers at the bottom, so much more useful, I once painted the fitted ones white and stencilled some leaves and stuff on the fronts, it looked ok but did not make them more useful

Thanks for your ideas - sliding mirrored doors sound like a good option! When we first moved into the house we painted them with satin paint and 'wood grained' them - looked quite good 10 yrs ago!!!!! I want something more classy now!!
