my son has poured sand into our toilet and while most of it has flushed away there is a small amount that won't budge! I've spent the past couple of hours witha bog brush stirring and flushing over and over but its not working exept for moving a few grains at a time - anyone got any ideas how i might clean this out?

get a plunger and when there is no water left in bowl scoop up the sand with paper towels.
fill a bucket with water and pour it in from a height a couple of times as you press the flush it will go. the force of the water clears it
The things kids do my son 4 at the time put a piece of toast into the top loading video and closed it had to get an engineer to take it apart to open it again still makes me smile

dont own a plunger so went for the bucket approach 4 flushes later and bob was uncle-ified thanks mamyalynne and deggers316!

Milliezoe, tell me about it think the littleun is loo-fixated as this is the 3rd flushing incident in as many weeks! God bless 'em eh?
You may have got away with it this time, but generally not advisable to flush it as it may settle further along the system with consequences more severe - next time I suggest bailing it out by hand.

think were talking about a handful of sand here not truckload?
what cause most drain blockages "further down the system" is people flushing disposable nappies
