The area given IS our back garden! It's basically soil/hardcore at the moment and has been for a couple of years! We're finally getting around to doing something with it! We were thinking patio would look nice and would be low maintenence! My husband fancies slate patio slabs. (Expensive taste!) and we've seen some with nustone.co.uk for approx £21 per m2 including vat and delivery. Anyone know of anything cheaper? We're open to suggestions re. alternative for garden surface. We have a 19 month old daughter so it needs to be child friendly if possible. Had thought of decking but heard it can get slippery and harder to maintain? Have also thought about a lawn (if that's possible? we're basically looking for a solution for the whole of our back garden which measures 6m x 6m. Any thoughts?
Thanks

We've got a mixture of slabs and gravel, hoffi, which gives a bit of variety but also means there is adequate drainage. We are higher than our next door neighbours and I would worry with all slabs that all the rainwater would just drain off under the fence. You need to leave drainage - plus also you will want some sort of drain yourselves so when you clean off the slabs (which will need doing from time to time) it goes somewhere, not sits around. We've planted some low-growing shrubs and bulbs in the gravel so there is some softening, and we have loads of stuff in pots. Easy maintenance!
